At the moment we have 19 chickens and 2 cockerels. During the recent snow they haven't wanted to come out of their house so Ive been carrying water and feeding them their corn in their house. Most mornings I take  vegetarian scraps down to them, things like left over porridge, cake, bread, which they enjoy. Now the days are starting to get longer they are starting to lay again, today I got 3 and yesterday I got 4, after a couple of months of virtually nothing. I love to watch them roaming the fields and listen to them, when they're happy they make more of a purring sound than a clucking sound.
