Lambing

Lambing is now over (well 3 sheep left, so nearly over). The lambs in the picture are some of the cade (orphan) lambs that we have this year. We have a total of 18 that we are now feeding 3 times a day, the older ones are approaching 6 weeks old so will be weaned off the milk feeds soon and will be fed corn and go out to grass.
Lambing has gone well with the weather being generally good which always helps. Most ewes have had twins with a few triplets and more (one had 5!) but we haven't left any ewes with triplets this year as it is too much for them to feed. The extra lambs have been fostered onto sheep with one lamb or onto ewes where their lamb has unfortunately died.
The lambs will stay on their mothers until September when we will start thinking about selling the first lot of lambs, probably through Bakewell market.
Next big jobs are shearing and hay making/silaging.
